Justices expand doctrine while overturning death penalty case
The Supreme Court expanded its doctrine on the ineffective assistance of counsel, setting aside the death penalty for a Pennsylvania man because his lawyers failed to search files on his past convictions for mitigating evidence.

Court doubting rulings in Texas death cases, lawyer says
Increased intervention in Texas death penalty cases indicates the U.S. Supreme Court isn't convinced lower courts will right constitutional wrongs for some on the state's death row, a lawyer active in Texas capital punishment litigation said.
