SPONSOR THE FAST AND VIGIL

The annual Fast and Vigil is a grassroots, not-for profit effort to reach out to TENS OF THOUSANDS of people who are in Washington DC, promoting our message of abolition. Each year the fast and vigil is one of, if not the most, mutli-organizational, widely supported events in the abolition movement.

AND WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT THIS YEAR!

Annually, the list of supporters includes anywhere from 60 to 70 cosponsors from many state and national organizations, making the Fast and Vigil perhaps one of the most multi-organizational supported events in the abolition movement.

Your sponsorship and donation helps support the event in numerous ways. Some of the highlights include:

  • allowing more than 75 participants from more than 20+ different states to attend at no mandatory cost
  • a place for out of town participants to sleep at the Center for Creative Nonviolence (which directly supports the CCNV's programs to support the homeless in DC)
  • water, juices, Gatorade and ice to keep the fasters and vigilers cool and hydrated
  • travel subsidies for those who can't affort to come to DC otherwise
  • brochures, stickers and buttons to educate both visitors and locals about the death penalty
  • an air conditioned base at the United Methodist Building for bathrooms and breaks from the heat
  • large visible banners which are seen by tens of thousands on the streets of DC
  • a private church space and food for our ceremonial "Last Supper" the night before fasting starts

Thank you in advance for your generous financial support. Without your contribution, this amazing all-volunteer, grassroots witness would not be able to continue in the capacity that it has all these years. ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE via Death Penalty Action (our fiscal cosponsor).

There are two easy ways to donate right now.

  1. Donate online: Visit our secure online donations page to sponsor by credit/debit card.
  2. Pay by check: Checks made payable to "Death Penalty Action" can be mailed to P.O. Box 89, Ghent, NY 12075. Paying by check helps us avoid credit/debit card processing fees. If mailing a check in 2020, please let us know via email (aac@abolition.org) so we know when to check our PO Box (for COVID safety reasons, trips to the post office box are being minimized).
What do you get out of it?
  • Sponsor's names are listed on signs at the Fast and Vigil, on our social media platforms, on any virtual online programming, as well as on this web page.
  • The petition we use is copied and each state organization affiliated with the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty gets a set that includes those who signed up from their state.
