Bio for David Elliot
Communications Director, National Coalition to Abolish
the Death Penalty
David Elliot is the Communications Director for the National
Coalition to Abolish the Death penalty. He is a former journalist
and newspaper reporter with the Austin American-Statesman. He
covered death penalty-related issues and state politics as a
capitol bureau reporter from 1990 to 1995, and was recognized
for outstanding coverage by the Associated Press Managing Editors
Convention for A day in the death of Inmate No. 918, an eyewitness
account of an execution in Texas. He was also honored by the
Center for Public Policy Priorities and the Texas State
Conference of NAACP Branches. He formerly held the posts of
communications director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task
Force (1999-2001) and press officer for the progressive group
People For the American Way (1996-1999), which monitors the
religious right political movement.
